Sixty percent of people with diabetes have some form of neuropathy (nerve damage), a complication of diabetes that may first appear as tingling or numbness in your feet and toes. Over time, it may cause a lack of feeling in the feet and toes and progress to the point that some people with diabetes can no longer feel when something has irritated or punctured their skin. As a result, a diabetic foot ulcer may develop in the foot’s soft tissue and can lead to a serious infection in only a few days. Left untreated, it can even lead to the amputation of toes, feet and legs. Come hear a leading podiatrist discuss ways to prevent diabetic foot problems and wound care should you develop a foot wound.
