BioTE® therapy may help balance your hormones

BioTE® Therapy Can Help Your Quality of Life

Don’t Suffer the Symptoms of Hormone Imbalance

BioTE® Medical bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) with pellets is now available at the Center for Spine and Orthopedics (CSO) for patients desiring to optimize their recovery after surgery. BHRT is a natural alternative to traditional hormone replacement therapy.

Men and women who struggle with symptoms associated with a hormone imbalance, such as fatigue, low libido, brain fog, anxiety and weight gain, may also benefit from this type of therapy. The goal of BioTE® therapy is to help balance your hormones so that you can live a better quality of life.

If you are planning to undergo a major surgery or suffer from the symptoms of hormone imbalance, find out if BHRT is right for you. CSO spine surgeon, Dr. Michael Janssen, and physician assistant Rachel Cengia are both certified in BHRT with BioTE pellets.

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) uses medication containing bioidentical hormones to replace the ones your body no longer makes. It is used to treat symptoms associated with a hormonal imbalance in both men and women. These symptoms may be physical, mental, emotional or a combination of these types of symptoms.
BHRT is used to treat a myriad of symptoms resulting from a hormone imbalance in women, including:

  • Fatigue
  • Irritability
  • Mood changes
  • Anxiousness
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Night sweats
  • Mood swings
  • Hot flashes or flushes
  • Weight gain
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Discomfort during intercourse

As a woman goes through menopause, her ovaries make less and less estrogen. Bioidentical hormones replace the hormones the body has lost, reducing these symptoms.

Bioidentical hormones are produced from plant estrogens, all of which contain the same properties as the estrogen your body makes. Bioidentical hormones can also act as a substitute for progesterone and other hormones in hormone replacement therapy. Not only is bioidentical hormone replacement therapy safe and effective for treating these symptoms, but it also prevents bone loss.

As a plant-based alternative to traditional man-made hormones, bioidentical hormones are growing in popularity. About 1.4 million women use this treatment, according to the North American Menopause Society.

In men, the symptoms of hormone imbalance include:

  • Low sex drive
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Increased body fat, especially around the waist area
  • Decreased bone mass
  • Mood changes
  • Low mood
  • Irritability
  • Brain fog
  • Elevated sugar levels
  • Stress
  • Anxiousness
  • High cholesterol

Low levels of testosterone in men can lead to lower mental capacity, low mood, and brain fog, but the bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) method from BioTE® Medical may help relieve these symptoms and improve cognitive function. As we age, it can be frustrating to deal with the loss of some cognitive function, but restoring hormone balance through BHRT may help you avoid these cognitive losses and maintain a sharp mind.

Bioidentical hormones are a form of hormone replacement therapy using hormones created from plant chemicals found in soybeans and yams. Your body uses these replacement hormones as it would your own to improve the symptoms caused by hormone fluctuations, such as fatigue, irritability, mood changes and weight gain, among others.
Hormones used in traditional hormone replacement therapy are usually made of synthetic materials or the urine of pregnant horses. In contrast, bioidentical hormones are created from plant materials, a more natural alternative.
BioTE® Medical is a brand of bioidentical hormones that delivers individualized hormone therapy to you in a pellet that is placed under your skin, optimizing hormone delivery. By comparison, bioidentical hormones taken in pill form are metabolized by your liver and get converted into a weaker hormone.
The body knows how to best use the hormones in pellet therapy because they are identical to the molecules that the body has been producing. Using two different types of pellets, estrogen and testosterone, the BioTE method has been shown to help thousands of patients balance their hormones.
At the Center for Spine and Orthopedics, your provider will determine if you are a good candidate for treatment. If so, they tailor your bioidentical hormone replacement therapy to your needs and symptoms. The goal is to alleviate your symptoms and deliver optimal results while taking the lowest possible dose.

The first step is to conduct blood tests to determine your hormone levels. Then, pellets are created to meet your exact hormonal requirements.

While on bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, your provider will closely monitor your health. You will have blood tests to periodically measure your hormone levels. If your hormone levels change, your provider may modify your dosage.

Placement of your BioTE Medical pellet happens in the office and only takes a few minutes. Fasting in advance is not required, and there’s no need to prepare for insertion.

To place the pellet, your CSO provider will first numb the area (most commonly in the upper buttocks) with a topical anesthetic. Then, a small incision is made, and your provider will place a pellet under the skin and cover it with a bandage.

You can expect healing from the incision to take 3 to 7 days. During this time, you will need to refrain from strenuous exercise, hot tubs, and soaking in a bath; showering is okay. Your bandage will be removed in 3 to 7 days, and then you can resume your usual activities.

Since pellets are bioidentical and contain hormones like those produced by the body, they are completely dissolved and absorbed, leaving nothing behind.

Unlike some other forms of bioidentical hormone therapy, BioTE pellets offer a consistent dose of hormones so you feel good all day, everyday. And because the pellet is in direct contact with your bloodstream, you get a bioidentical hormone that’s molecularly like your own.
On average, patients need two to four pellet insertions a year. However, just as each patient’s symptoms are unique, so is each patient’s path to hormone optimization.

Your CSO provider will customize your pellet therapy to fit your specific needs.

Some patients start to feel the benefits of hormone therapy in as little as four weeks, but full hormone optimization can take up to six months, depending on the individual’s needs, as well as the reinsertion plan that they decide to proceed with.
