Virtual CME Lecture Focuses on “Opioid Dosing and Alternatives”Jacque Carbone, ACNP, and Paul Leo, MD, anesthesiologist and pain management specialist, presented virtual Continuing Medical Education (CME) lectures on “Opioid Dosing and Alternatives” on April 21. The Center for Spine and Orthopedics offered the program in response to the new State of Colorado requirement that providers earn two CMEs of opioid training by April 30, 2021.

Almost 100 physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners logged on for the lecture. “Your colleagues were over the top wonderful. It was also great to learn how far chronic pain management has come for the poor, suffering patient, not to mention during the Covid/opiate epidemic,” said Valerie Novak, NP, BSN, MSN, Certified APP. “And your nurse practitioner is amazing…Please keep me on your distribution list for future events!”

The two lectures were the third offering this year in the Center for Spine and Orthopedics 2021 Virtual Spine and Orthopedic Educational Lecture Series for healthcare providers. Participants received 1 CME credit for each hour they participated. The practice’s next CME lecture on June 9 will feature spine surgeon, Dr. Jacob Rumley, who will discuss “Tandem Stenosis.” Tandem spinal stenosis refers to spinal canal diameter narrowing in at least 2 distinct regions of the spine, most commonly the lumbar and cervical regions.

Education is a key part of the Center for Spine and Orthopedics’ mission. In addition to CME education for healthcare providers, physicians at the Center for Spine and Orthopedics also offer lectures for the general public on various spine and orthopedics conditions and treatments, including non-operative care.
